Jiří Thýn: Pravda z cyklu Hledání Monumentu_Truth from Searching for a Monument Series
I celebrate myself, and sing myself, And what I assume you shall assume, For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you.
Walt Whitman The experimental and innovative approach towards photography and its intersections with other media of czech contemporary artist Jiří Thýn (b. 1977) offers a profound experience at the threshold between photography and reality. Thýn’s process leans mainly on classical techniques of collage and montage, in many ways returning to the roots of the perceptive conundrum posed by the camera lens. Thýn’s academic background includes his studies in photography at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, as well as at the Academy of Applied Arts under Prof. Pavel Štecha. Further notable academic engagements include the time spent in painting studio of Profs. Vladimír Skrepl and Jiří Kovanda at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, and a year at TAIK Helsinki. Currently, Jiří Thýn is a Professor in the Department of Photography ar Prague Film and TV Academy. Since his academic years, Thýn’s works have been included in Manifesta, countless group and solo exhibitions, as well as in 2011 and 2012 finals of Jindřich Chalupecký Award. The show Truth, from the cycle Searching for a Monument is the first one after a slight pause.

Sebe slavím a sebe zpívám, Co já si troufám, ty též si troufni, Neboť každý atom, který mně patří, i tobě patří.

Experimentálny a inovatívny prístup k fotografii a jej presahom do ostatných médii českého súčasného umelca Jiřího Thýna (*1977) poukazuje na hranicu medzi obrazom, vychádzajúcim z fotografie ako techniky, a realitou. Proces jeho práce inklinuje ku klasickým postupom koláže a montáže, istým spôsobom skúmajúc návrat k typickej problematike percepcie v kontexte oka fotografického aparátu.
